Bayern Munich Suffer Last Gasp Real Madrid Heartbreak In Champions League Semi Final

Bayern Munich suffer last-gasp Real Madrid heartbreak in Champions League semi-final

Bayern left fuming after controversial offside call denies them extra-time chance

Bayern Munich were left fuming after a late offside decision denied them an extra-time chance in their Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

With the scores at 2-1 to Madrid on the night and 4-3 on aggregate, Bayern thought they had snatched a dramatic equaliser in the final minutes when Joselu headed home from close range.

However, the goal was ruled out for offside, with replays showing that De Ligt was marginally ahead of the last Madrid defender when the ball was played forward. Bayern's players and staff were incensed by the decision, arguing that De Ligt had not touched the ball and was therefore not interfering with play.

The decision proved to be a decisive moment in the tie, as Bayern were unable to find another goal in the remaining minutes and Madrid progressed to the final where they will face Liverpool.

Bayern's coach, Julian Nagelsmann, was left to rue the offside call after the game, saying: "I think it was a clear offside. It's a shame that such a big decision goes against us in such a big game."

Madrid's coach, Carlo Ancelotti, was more circumspect in his comments, saying: "I haven't seen the replay but I'm told it was a close call. I'm just happy that we're through to the final."
