Senate Dismisses Impeachment Articles
WASHINGTON - The House of Representatives voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday, February 14, 2024.
The Senate began the impeachment trial on Wednesday, February 15, 2024. After a brief debate, the Senate voted to dismiss the first of two articles of impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas. The second article was withdrawn by House impeachment managers.
"The Senate's decision to dismiss the impeachment charges against Secretary Mayorkas is a victory for common sense," said Representative Foxx. "Secretary Mayorkas is a dedicated public servant who has worked tirelessly to protect our national security."
Representative Foxx also criticized the impeachment process, calling it a "political stunt" by Democrats.
"This impeachment was nothing more than a partisan attempt to score political points," said Foxx. "It's time for Democrats to put aside their political games and start working with Republicans to address the real challenges facing our country."
