A fatal crash involving a fuel tanker on Highway 401 has resulted in multiple fatalities, including an infant, and has shut down the highway in both directions.
According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), four people died in the incident, including the infant. The crash occurred near Brock Road in Pickering late Tuesday night.
A video captured by a passerby shows a police pursuit of a wrong-way driver on Highway 401 in Whitby. It is unclear if the wrong-way driver was involved in the fatal crash.
The highway remains closed between exits 406 Lake and Brock Road as authorities investigate the cause of the crash and work to clear the wreckage.
